Case Study

111 DXN

Apartment Building

Wellington, New Zealand

Project Info

With previous projects benefiting from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), the opportunity to add value here was again helpful. We provided advice in fabrication and planning for the balcony balustrades and internal stair screening.

Modulation was a valuable approach for fast, cost-effective construction. Bathroom pods were on the plans. The focus then turned to modular balconies, if these could be developed efficiently without compromising the style and quality of the end result. It was no small job. 92 balconies required 600 linear metres of balustrade. We got to work planning to perfection. Balconies were assembled offsite and balustrades and decking fitted here.

Installation speed could not compromise health and safety either. With the close proximity of neighbouring buildings and the infamous Wellington wind to contend with everything needed to be planned perfectly in fitting the balconies. There were to be no unexpected calls to 111.

The best way to achieve this result was to use a 200T mobile crane and, along with a well-managed road closure in busy downtown Wellington, quickly lift and fit the balconies to the building. With 10 balconies able to be installed each day the project provided a perfect demonstration for this innovative new approach to apartment construction.
